SHAS-AI

The increasing complexity of AI-based systems and their dependence on data makes them vulnerable to cyberattacks. New EU-funded project SHASAI will address cybersecurity risks in AI systems, from design to real-world operation.

About SHAS-AI

Started on 1 November 2025 and set to run until the end of April 2029, SHASAI (Secure Hardware and Software for AI systems) brings together a consortium of 16 partners from five different countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Türkiye).

SHASAI aims to:

  • Strengthen the security, resilience and trustworthiness of AI-based systems.
  • Address cybersecurity risks from the initial design and development stages through to deployment and real-world operation.
  • Help organizations deploy AI systems that are innovative, resilient, trustworthy and compliant with European regulations.
  • Demonstrate and validate its methods and tools in three real-world scenarios: AI-enabled cutting machines in the agrifood sector, eye-tracking systems used in assistive healthcare technologies, and a tele-operated last-mile delivery vehicle in the mobility sector.
  • Support Europe’s broader efforts to promote trustworthy AI, by translating high-level cybersecurity and AI safety principles into concrete technical practices.

Main Activities

Its key activities include:

  • Defining a trustworthy framework for the development, deployment, and use of AI.
  • Defining project’s end-user, AI System’s security requirements from use cases.
  • Implementing an End-to-End Framework for Secure Supply Chain.
  • Implementing Secure-by-design SW and HW for AI Systems.
  • Implementing a virtual platform for AI Systems Security Testing.
  • Implementing AI-enhanced security services.
  • Operating AI Systems through a continuous security assessment platform.
  • Validating the solutions in relevant environments.
